Health Department provides advice on vaccinations, exposure guidelines after Ingham County measles case.
This week, the Ingham County Health Department announced the county’s first confirmed measles case in more than 30 years. After the announcement, ICHD responded to questions from ELi about why some previously vaccinated adults may need to get a new immunization and more. Police Oversight Commission discusses harassment, trespassing laws.
The April East Lansing Independent Police Oversight Commission (ELIPOC) meeting featured a conversation about who should determine if someone is trespassing on a business’ property, the business owner or police. The meeting also featured an apology from Interim Police Chief Jen Brown for her behavior at the March meeting, when she referred to some oversight commissioners as “cop haters.” Read Reporter Ayah Imran’s story here.
Budget season is here: Council hears proposed FY26 budgets.
With the city’s next fiscal year scheduled to begin at the start of July, budget season is officially in full swing. This week, council heard presentations about the proposed budgets for the city’s general fund, police and fire departments, Downtown Development Authority and more. ELHS orchestra teams up with CMU, Okemos High School students for collaborative concert.
East Lansing High School hosted a unique concert this week, as ELHS, Okemos High School and Central Michigan University choral and orchestra students teamed up to host a concert. The show featured more than 150 students after they held just one combined rehearsal. Read Ayah’s preview of the concert here.

There’s a full slate of city meetings next week.
Eight city meetings are on the docket next week. Monday (April 21), the Commission on the Environment will meet. Tuesday (April 22), City Council and the University Student Commission will each gather. Wednesday (April 23), City Council will hold a special meeting to interview city attorney candidates and the Planning Commission will convene. Then on Thursday (April 24), the Downtown Development Authority, Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and Building Board of Appeals each meet. Meeting agendas can be found here.
ELPD to host Easter Egg hunt tonight.
The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) is hosting its annual Easter Egg Hunt tonight, Saturday, April 19 at 5 p.m. The event will be held at Henry Fine Park in East Lansing.

All-Of-Us Express Children’s Theatre to Put on a Production of “Holes.”
Albert A. White Theater in the Hannah Community Center will host a production of “Holes” by the All-Of-Us Express Children’s Theatre. The play, based on Louis Sachar’s famed novel, will be performed April 25-27 and May 2-4.
